Meet Our Tutors

Ryan is a licensed French teacher with over 17 years of teaching and tutoring experience. He has French-Canadian family heritage and spent a year abroad in Liège, Belgium. He has a Bachelor of Arts in French from Rutgers University and a Master of Arts in Education from Saint Peter’s University. He spent his first 13 years as a teacher working in private education and for the past four years has been teaching at Westfield High School in NJ. He has taught all levels of French, including AP, Ryan’s approachable demeanor allows him to engage with his students in an uplifting and productive atmosphere. He values getting to know his students and brings their interests into his lessons. Ryan helps his students gain confidence in and improve their language skills through the use of humor and personally relevant activities.

EXPERTISE IN:

Lawrence is a licensed full-time physics teacher at Manasquan High School, New Jersey, where he teaches Honors Physics, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. With a deep and up-to-date understanding of these subjects and curriculum, he is committed to helping students excel in challenging courses.

Lawrence holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University, where he also tutored Calculus and SAT Math. After graduating, he spent a year teaching SAT Math and Pre-Calculus at Success Academy in Manhattan before transitioning to his current role at Manasquan High School.

EXPERTISE IN:

Alex has a BA in English from the City College of New York, and an MA in Fantasy Literature from the University of Glasgow. Her enthusiasm for the written word and the endless possibilities of storytelling has shaped both her personal and professional life. In addition to tutoring, Alex has worked as an ESL instructor, an elementary school curriculum writer and editor, and currently works as an editor for The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where her love of history, art, and language converge.

EXPERTISE IN:

Miryam has a passion for helping students excel in their studies. Miryam is currently an adjunct professor at NJIT and Seton Hall University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Montclair State University, as well as, a Master of Science in Chemistry from Seton Hall University. Beginning as a Tutor and a Teacher Assistant, Miryam has over five years of tutoring experience. She has an interactive teaching approach, and tailors lessons to meet each student’s unique learning needs. Outside of tutoring, she enjoys working out, reading and serving her community by being an EMT!

EXPERTISE IN:

I’m Pablo Leyva, a math and computer science educator with a background in Applied Statistics & Data Science and an AI concentration. I am passionate to help students build true conceptual understanding through structured problem-solving and real-world application. Beyond tutoring, I actively work in applied machine learning and software engineering, and have applied AI experience at Apple, where I focus on building intelligent systems that connect mathematics, data, and modern engineering. My goal is to empower every student with confidence, clarity, and technical mastery, whether they’re strengthening foundational math skills, preparing for exams, or exploring computer science for the first time.

EXPERTISE IN:

James is a Ph.D. candidate at Seton Hall University (May 2026) which he began to pursue after obtaining a M.S. in Chemistry and B.S. in Biology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florham Campus. James is the lead researcher in the Snow Research Group at SHU working on various projects in separation science with a focus in limits of detection theory, green analytical chemistry, fundamentals of gas chromatography. At FDU his research in the Elshaer Research Group focused on complex NMR studies, and the synthesis of composite materials. He began tutoring at FDU’s Academic Support Center helping his underclassmen and peers in both lower and upper level science courses. He serves as the Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor and Instrumentation Manager at FDU, Florham Campus.

EXPERTISE IN:

Emily is a PhD student, studying Mathematics Education at Montclair State University. Prior to entering the PhD program, she received a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and a Master of Science in Mathematics from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She has experience tutoring and teaching students of multiple ages and levels, and most recently, she worked as an adjunct mathematics instructor at both Montclair State University and Union County Community College. Math has always been a passion of hers, and she attributes this passion to the inspiring teachers that she had along the way. She has always believed that anyone, no matter what, is capable of doing mathematics, and she hopes to share her passion with every student that she meets.

EXPERTISE IN:

Al has been tutoring mathematics since 2012 and was substitute teaching for five years beforehand. He first started tutoring mathematics while attending NJIT for his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering minoring in Applied Mathematics from the recommendation of his differential equations professor. He found further inspiration to expand his tutoring repertoire with physics while he pursued graduate studies returning to NJIT for a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is quite passionate about helping students learn, grow, and achieve their academic goals by catering his teaching style to each individual student’s learning abilities.

Fun fact : he loves bowling and can fold paper into swans, peacocks and dragons – yes dragons, most often as gifts and rewards to students who have shown exceptional academic excellence.
